Sky Lakes went on lockdown yesterday during the shooting event but it was not related to any Coronavirus outbreak locally.
Sky Lakes released the following statement last night:
Contrary to rumors, Sky Lakes Medical Center is not on lockdown, and there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at this time. Earlier this evening, Sky Lakes Medical Center went under lockdown due to a shooting event in the local area. This event has nothing to do with the COVID-19 and the hospital is back open and has resumed normal operations.
Sky Lakes leaders have crafted well-considered processes and protocols to deal with patients who meet the CDC’s specific criteria of COVID-19 and who present at Sky Lakes Medical Center or any of our outpatient facilities.

There are currently no known cases of Coronavirus in Klamath County or Southern Oregon. Special thanks to Klamath Alerts Moderator Alicia M. for help with this story.
The article states that sky lakes went on lockdown do to a shooting in the area, however the only shooting that this event matched in time with was on the other side of town. This brings up multiple questions. was there another shooting on Monday around 5 pm that has not been reported by any news stations, if not, why did sky lakes feel the need to go into lockdown? Why hasn’t sky lakes gone into lockdown for the other shootings this week then as well? Another question I would like to ask is why didn’t Oregon Institute of Technology feel the need to also go into lockdown at that time? My final question is with some of the wording in the article. when the article states “… there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at this time.” the wording in question is “confirmed cases” is this choice of words quoting Sky Lakes or is this the wording of the writer?
Sky Lakes was on lockdown due to a victim at the facility and the suspect at large. As a precaution they lockdown in case the suspect shows up there. This happens more often than most people know when there is violence and a suspect is at large. OIT did not need to go on lockdown as there was no threat. There are still no confirmed or even suspected cases in Klamath County that Klamath Alerts is aware of. You can see the latest info on our page in resources here on the website.
why is this the only news coverage of the lockdown?
No idea on that question. We do our best to keep the community updated.
