Due to a chemical spill in Dorris, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office with the support of our emergency response partners is issuing a SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER for the following zones:
  • – DOR – 4106 (East of Matthews Rd, North of Richardson Rd)
  • – DOR – 4112 (West of Dorris Brownell Rd, North of Richardson Rd)
The chemical spilled is Paraquat (Gramoxone), a highly toxic herbicide that can be fatal if inhaled or ingested. This chemical can be an airborne risk, so we encourage everyone in the affected area to:
  • – Turn off all AC/HVAC units
  • – Keep doors and windows closed
  • – Avoid outdoor activities
If you believe you have been exposed to or come into contact with this chemical, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY
Per Caltrans District 2 Highway 97 through Dorris is currently CLOSED:
  • -Southbound on Highway 97 (North of Dorris Hill)
  • -Northbound at Inspection Station
  • -Northbound at County Road A12

NOTE: commercial vehicles CANNOT use this route and must wait at checkpoints.
