Suspect In Custody After Vehicle Pursuit – Marion County – 03/07/18

On Tuesday March 6 at about 8:32pm OSP Troopers from the Salem Area Command received a driving complaint of a reckless driver on I5 near milepost 249 in Marion County.


Preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 249 was passing vehicles at high rates of speed on the shoulder. When OSP attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle attempted to elude law enforcement. OSP terminated near Woodburn for safety reasons. The vehicle was located a short time later in the Portland area by the Portland Police Bureau. The suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle before fleeing southbound on I5. With the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, spike strips were deployed and the vehicle stopped on I5 at milepost 283 on the left shoulder.

After a short stand off, the suspect was removed from the pickup and taken into custody. The freeway was shut down in both directions for approximately 45min.

OSP was assisted by the Portland Police Bureau, Clackamas County Sheriffs Office, Tigard Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

The driver was identified as Jimmy Eduardo Maeda-Escobar, age 21, was arrested for multiple crimes including DUII, Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude, Hit and Run, and Reckless Endangering.
