Just before 8am Oct 5th an Oregon State Police Trooper who was not on scene called for backup for an officer involved shooting at Milepost 258 on Highway 97. Klamath County Sheriff Deputies and City of Klamath Falls Officers responded to the scene.

Details are still coming in but here is what we know.

A male in his mid to late 40’s was shot at least twice by an unknown agency police officer. Based on current information we have, we believe the suspect who was shot is now deceased. It is currently unclear what led to the contact with these suspects by the trooper. The trooper on the scene of the shooting has been reported safe.

Preliminary information indicates that there were about 4 total suspects and one is a female who fled the scene and is reported to be armed. The female is described as a slender built blonde in her 30’s. She was reported to be wearing grey sweatpants and is also reported to be armed.

Police are checking the area around Modoc Point and using K-9’s and aircraft in the search according to reports.

Highway 97 has been closed in both directions and a detour is in place now with ODOT directing traffic.
