On November 14, 2018 at about 12:31pm Chiloquin fire, Oregon State Police, and Klamath County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible plane crash.

A 911 caller observed an aircraft flying from about 100 to 150 feet off the ground “nose down” over Highway 97 near the chain up area at Spring Creek Hill. This was observed at about mile post 241 on Highway 97.

An extensive ground search was started and initially it was thought some wreckage was found. A helicopter was dispatched from Klamath Falls and what was first thought to be wreckage (viewed from a long distance on the ground) was actually power company employees working on utility lines.

During the air search with the helicopter a new brush fire was located.  Fire crews were dispatched to put it out. The fire was reported to be small and in about three or four different spots about 4 miles east of Spring Creek Hill.

After a several hour long search it was determined there was no crash. Power company crews reported seeing a military aircraft flying very low in the same area prior to the crash report.
