KCSO Investigated Threat To Brixner JR High Over Weekend
Although no press release information has been sent out (as of posting time) Klamath County School District has made this statement about a threat that was investigated:
THREAT REPORTED, RESOLVED AT BRIXNER:
At the end of the school day on Friday, Nov. 8, while on the bus, a student heard another student make a threat toward Brixner Junior High School. The student who heard the threat reported it to their parent. The Klamath County Sheriff’s Department received notification of the threat on Saturday evening. School administrators were then notified and witnesses were interviewed by law enforcement.
The responsible student was apprehended that evening. It was determined by law enforcement that the student did not have the means to carry out the threat. However, because of the seriousness of the threat appropriate measures were taken by both law enforcement and school administrators.
Before 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, the sheriff’s department determined the student was no longer a threat, and made a plan with the school district for showing a safety presence when Brixner Junior High School resumed on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the sheriff’s department presence at Brixner on Tuesday morning was misconstrued as an ongoing threat at the school and speculation was then published on social media. If there had been any perceived threat to students and the school on Tuesday, the district would have promptly notified parents well in advance of school starting that day.
Brixner Junior High School administrators chose to inform parents about the incident shortly after school started on Tuesday because of ongoing questions and speculation on social media.
The district wants to commend the student who brought the threat to the attention of their parent as well as the efficient and professional work of law enforcement. Sheriff’s deputies contacted and worked closely with school district administrators over the weekend while investigating the incident and determining the best course of action.
The school district has and will continue to take any threat with utmost seriousness, taking appropriate actions and notifying the public in a prompt manner.
