Saturday May 9th was a very busy day for local fireman and police as well. Firefighters and police responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of Riverside Drive yesterday afternoon around 2:30pm.  There were no reports of injuries and the fire was quickly brought under control.

At about 9:38pm Saturday night, firefighters responded to a brush fire behind the new Gospel Mission. The fire was reported to have been about 1/8 acre in size and was brought under control.

An additional fire was reported behind Coastal on Avalon only a few minutes later. Police and firefighters arrived to find a pallet fire behind and against the building.

A short time after the Coastal fire, a new report of a fire at Diamond Home improvement came in and railroad ties were found burning there.

There is currently an active investigation underway for the Gospel Mission, Coastal, and Diamond Home Improvement fires. So far no information has been released by investigators. The cause of the earlier fire on Riverside has not been formally released and we don’t know if that fire is connected to the suspicious fires later in the evening. If any new information is released by investigators we will update with a new article.
