The 21st CCLC After School Program has exciting news to share!  Starting Tuesday, January 26th we will be offering live and recorded after school sessions virtually for city school students. The After School Program’s goal is to enrich students’ lives and enhance their academic success through online learning opportunities and engaging activities. As we move through the second half of the school year, we are happy to announce that we are now able to bring the program to your living room.

Elementary Schools:

Each week elementary school students will have the opportunity to participate in the virtual after school program through their Canvas classrooms.  We will host two live sessions every week and post two pre-recorded sessions. We have made the program available to students in both AM and PM sessions so there is more opportunity to attend. The session for students that attend morning school will be from 1:30 PM -3:00 PM each day and the session for students that attend afternoon will be from 10:30 AM -12:00 PM each day.

Each elementary grade level will participate in their own virtual class for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grades.  Each lesson will include social-emotional activities, brain breaks, physical fun, reading, science (provided by the Science Works Hands-on Museum in Ashland, OR), and math activities. In addition to this content we will have weekly art activities online or in fun handouts along with a Weekly Challenge for all students.

Elementary students in grades 3-5 will also have access to homework help each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Times for each grade group session are as follows:

  • 3rd grade: 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • 4th grade:11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
  • 5th grade:12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Ponderosa Middle School:

At Ponderosa Middle School your student will have the opportunity to share what interests them so that we can provide a club-based program that is engaging and informative for the students.   We will have weekly club opportunities starting on January 26th, so that your student can engage with others while exploring their interests.

Clubs will be hosted one to two days a week depending on student participation. all clubs are hosted online after 3:30 PM.  Our goal in hosting these clubs is to expand student interest while offering social and emotional support and learning activities that will enhance their overall school experience. Our after school club schedule (to start) is as follows:

  •  Monday: Drawing Club 3:45 – 4:45 & Book Club 4:30 – 5:30
  • Tuesday: Strong Bodies, Strong Minds 3:45-4:45 & Let’s Crochet Together 4:30-5:30
  • Wednesday: Medicine Bags/Bracelets/Sewing 3:45-4:45 & Chess Club 4:30-5:30
  • Thursday: Literature Club 3:45-4:45 & Film Appreciation Club 4:30-5:30
  • Friday: Guitar Lessons 4:30 – 5:30

Each week we will also offer homework help in many of the subjects that students may need extra support.   Peer tutoring for students who are interested will also be available in an online group setting.  Klamath Union High School students will be available after 3:15 to offer middle school students the help that they need to succeed.  If there is a greater need for student homework help and peer tutoring, we will expand our available help to ensure that students are offered support.

Klamath Union High School (KU):

We are offering certified teacher led online tutoring for KU students needing support. We are lucky to have Karley Marshall from KU involved in our Peer Tutoring program again this year.  KU peer tutoring will be available online.  Group tutoring in multiple subjects will be available each week Monday through Friday 3:15 – 4:30 on a drop-in basis.

Interested KU students will also be able to participate in an internship program in collaboration with local employers. Community businesses and local individuals will offer students the opportunity to explore different careers and to develop their jobs skills. Each student will be matched with a local business after an application and interview process with the After School program.  Students will commit to a six week program in which they spend at least three days a week (after school) at the business that they have been paired with. Each afternoon they will learn lifelong job skills while forming connections with employers within our community.
