On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 10:02 A.M., Klamath County 911 received a call from Jeremiah Cogburn (36) reporting he had gotten into a fight with his friend.  He had punched his friend during the fight and his friend had, “took off into the hills.”

At approximately 10:15 A.M., Klamath County 911 received a second call on the incident.  A woman reported her 23-year-old nephew had been shot in the head and was being transported to the hospital.

Klamath County Deputies contacted Cogburn at his residence on Canyon Drive in Chiloquin.  He was brought to Klamath Falls, where he was interviewed by Oregon State Police Detectives.


The victim was contacted at Sky Lakes Medical Center where he was interviewed by a Klamath Falls City Police detective.  The victim reported he was “pistol-whipped” on his head by Cogburn, prior to Cogburn shooting him.

The victim received an injury on his head, apparently from the bullet grazing the top of his head.  The victim also had several other injuries on his head that required medical attention.

Cogburn was taken into custody and lodged in the Klamath County Jail.

He was charged with Attempted Murder, 2 counts of Assault in the Second Degree, 2 counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing and Recklessly Endangering.

OSP was assisted by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office and the Klamath Falls City Police Department.
