Sycan River Fire

Klamath Alerts has been tracking a new fire start in Klamath County. The Sycan River Fire was initially reported at 5-10 acres. It is located north of the NF-288 road. The image above is an estimate of the fire start location.  Officials are concerned with disbursed campers in the area and the Sycan River Estates have now been placed under a Level 2 evacuation notice. Emergency alerts were sent over the local cellular network a short time ago. The initial fire report came in at about 2:30pm this afternoon and the current size is unknown.


As of 5pm:

Evacuation orders for Sycan Forest Estates have been upgraded to LEVEL 2 (be set) and residents need to be prepared to leave immediately if needed!  American Red Cross and Klamath County CERT are mobilizing to setup a temporary evacuation point in the parking lot of Gearhart Elementary School located at 61100 Metler Street in Bly, OR.

The Sycan River Fire is currently burning on private and National Forest System lands, approximately 20 miles north of Beatty. The fire is burning on the Chiloquin Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service – Fremont-Winema National Forest.

The fire is estimated to be approximately 250 acres with no containment. It is primarily wind-driven and burning in mixed conifer and brush. The cause is under investigation.
