YREKA, Calif, June, 30, 2021— The Tennant Fire broke out on the east side of the Klamath National Forest late Monday afternoon near Highway 97 and Tennant Road. Hot temperatures and winds have fueled rapid fire growth since the fire started. An infrared flight occurred over the incident late last night and mapped the Tennant Fire at 8,159 acres. Fire officials are reporting 6% containment.

California Interagency Incident Management Team 15 assumed control of the Tennant Fire at 18:00 on June 30th, 2021. CAIMT15 Incident Commander Jim Harris and CAL FIRE Incident Commander Luke Kendall are working together in Unified Command to manage the Tennant Fire.

There are currently 278 personnel assigned to the Tenant Fire, including 7 hand crews, 14 engines, 5 dozers, numerous aircraft, and 50 overhead personnel. Additional resources continue to be ordered and are arriving at the incident.

Evacuation Orders and Warnings are in effect for areas surrounding the Tennant Fire.

The cause of the Tennant Fire is still under investigation.
