KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – November 24, 2021 – Healthy Klamath-A Certified Blue Zones Community is participating in GivingTuesday this year to help raise funds and awareness about its Moore Park Playground Project. GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity that will take place on November 30, 2021. Healthy Klamath is using the day to kickstart a holiday giving campaign for the playground project.

The goal of the holiday giving campaign is to raise $100,000 for the community playground. To date 81% of funds have been raised with Healthy Klamath securing $644,314 out of the needed $800,000. The hope is that the holiday giving campaign coupled with a few outstanding grant submissions will meet the fundraising goal.

The playground will be a one-of-a-kind, 18,000 square foot destination playground designed from the imagination of local Klamath County children. The playground will replace an older, run down, not fully accessible playground next to the tennis courts in Moore Park. The new playground will feature rubber surfacing and ADA-accessible structures for all families to enjoy.

“This playground project is a light for our community. I can’t help but imagine parents and grandparents with disabilities that require special accessibility beaming as they watch their children and grandchildren play. A simple joy that would have otherwise been unattainable at the old playground.” said Jessie Wilkie, PR & Marketing Manager at Healthy Klamath.

Not only will the playground be accessible and easy-to-navigate for people with disabilities, it will also provide some exciting play opportunities for children with disabilities including a state-of-the-art wheelchair swing.

In a time when so many people and children are glued to their screens, this playground will be a breath of fresh air. It will help to build community and improve physical health and well being. Increasing physical activity for children will help combat health issues like childhood obesity while also strengthening mental health, both are health areas that were detrimentally impacted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
