For those of you who enjoy watching the sky, there is an excellent viewing opportunity expected just after sunset this evening. The International Space Station will be visible as it makes a pass over Klamath Falls. Traveling from the Southwest to Northeast, The ISS will appear on the horizon at about 5:44pm and fly overhead by 5:47pm. By 5:50pm the ISS will vanish into Earth’s shadow.

The ISS makes an orbit around Earth every 92 minutes as it travels over 17,000mph (5 miles per second). The average altitude is 250 miles up. Clear skies and the timing of the orbit just after sunset will make tonight’s pass very bright. The ISS appears as a fast moving bright white spot in the sky with no aid to vision needed to see it.
