A winter star party will be offered by the Klamath County Museum Friday, Feb. 4, at the Klamath Falls YMCA, 1221 South Alameda Ave.
The free event begins at 6 p.m., with the best viewing conditions starting after 6:30.
In the event of cloudy weather on Friday, the event will be postponed to Saturday, Feb. 5.
“We’ll see two very bright objects this weekend in opposite parts of the sky,” said museum manager Todd Kepple. “The planet Jupiter will be visible for a very short time before it sets on the western horizon, and the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius, will be rising in the east.”
Telescopes will be provided by the museum, volunteers from Klamath Community College, and amateur astronomers from the Klamath Basin.
Participants should dress for cold nighttime air, and bring binoculars and lawn chairs.
Anyone who would like to request help with setting up their personal telescope is welcome to come at 5 p.m. to receive assistance.
For more information contact the museum at (541) 882-1000.
