KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – July 6th, 2022 – In partnership with the Klamath Falls Downtown Association, Healthy Klamath was selected as one of the grantees for the AARP Community Challenge. We are excited about this opportunity, because out of 3500 applicants only 259 were selected. The project that was selected is the alleyway art project, otherwise known as the alleyway activation project.

The project committee will be working with business owners to select one alleyway that will receive four original artworks. The goal of this project is to improve the overall appearance of our alleyways, and make them more inviting and safe. Having artwork in alleyways is a concept that many other communities have put into practice when trying to beautify their downtowns. By adding more art in public spaces we hope to increase the number of community members walking and utilizing our beautiful downtown. Art in public spaces has shown to improve many things, such as community pride, walkability and tourist traffic.

Each painting will be framed in a custom steel frame, designed to preserve the historical building that it will be attached to. The location and style of frame will also provide a safety precaution against vandalism.

One of the four paintings will be done by our local Senior Center, and for the others we are asking that local artists apply! Each artist selected will be given a supply allowance and a stipend for their time and creative energy. For more information about the project and how to apply, please visit healthyklamath.com/alleyway-activation-project-application or email Kelsey Mueller Wendt at kelsey.mueller@healthyklamath.org.
