On Friday, June 23rd, 2023, at approximately 11:01 am, a 2008 AM General truck, which was converted for hauling hay, was traveling southbound on Harpold Road just north of the California/Oregon border. For an unknown reason, the driver of the AM General traveled directly into the path of a 1989 Freightliner truck tractor which was traveling westbound on State Line Road. The violent crash knocked down power lines causing the AM General to catch fire.
The driver of the AM General was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center. The driver of the Freightliner was ejected from their vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Freightliner was not wearing their seatbelt. There is no indication of alcohol or drug use being a contributing factor in this crash.
CHP has not released names of those involved in the crash.
