July 12th, 2023 – Klamath County Fire District 1 (KCFD1) responded to two fast moving brush fires on Tuesday. The first fire came in at approximately 2:20pm in the 3800 BLK of Collier lane. The first arriving engine reported a fast moving, wind driven fire in grasses and light brush. The fire was contained to less than 2 acres and no structures were damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The second fire was dispatched at approximately 6:30pm for a grass fire along Crater Lake Parkway. Crews found a wind driven grass fire with multiple trees burning. The fast actions of the crews held the fire to less than ½ acre. The cause of the fire was found to be a discarded cigarette into the dry brush. The discarding of burning materials is illegal and could cause catastrophic damage.

The Oregon Department of Forestry raised the fire danger level from Moderate to High today with the hot and dry conditions we and have been experiencing and future forecast of even higher temperatures. During fire season, open burning is not allowed.

KCFD1 would like to thank the Kingsley Field Fire Department, Klamath County Fire District 4, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management and law enforcement for assistance with these incidents.
