KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Klamath County Museum will be open regular hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 and 25. Regular admission rates will apply, which are $5 for adults and $4 for teens and seniors. Children 12 and under are always admitted free.

The museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

The museum is offering free admission and extended hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the first Fridays of December, January and February.

In addition to free admission on Friday, Dec. 1, the museum will present a program on the history of Springfield model firearms at noon, and again at 6:30 p.m. that day.

“Springfield muskets and rifles were the primary firearms for the Army for many years,” said museum Curator Matt Voelkel. “Their evolution is a glimpse not only into the rapid advances in technology seen in the second half of the 19th century, but also a window into evolving military strategies.”

The museum holds a number of Springfield model rifles manufactured for the United States military over the span of five decades. Additional models will also be presented, and firearms experts will be on hand to demonstrate and discuss how each model works.

Other programs will be offered on free first Fridays in January and February.

For more information contact the museum at (541) 882-1000.
