A strong winter storm is headed our way this weekend. After mostly mild conditions with rain, the change over to winter weather is welcomed by some.
Here is what you need to know:
Locally: The inbound storm is likely to impact our region starting around 3am-4am Saturday morning. About 2-3 inches of snow are possible in the local Klamath Falls area mostly between the hours of 4am-11am for the majority of the snow fall locally according to the most recent data. After the bulk of the storm, scattered snow showers are expected to continue into Sunday.
Mountains: Winter weather driving conditions will be common in the higher elevations with heavy snow at times and snowfall rates up to 1″ per hour. 12-18″ of new snow possible in the higher elevations of the cascades.
Even a couple inches of snow are not out of the question for the Ashland and East Medford areas this weekend.
Additional storms including another strong storm is expected Tuesday with more heavy snow in the mountains. Snow is expected all next week in the Cascades as well with short breaks between storms.
From the NWS Weather Service: Snow will impact Southern Oregon and NorCal Saturday into Saturday evening with snow levels around 2500 feet. Main impacts will be over the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain passes with the heaviest snow expected from 4-10 am (snowfall rates of 1”/per hour at times). Travel impacts (mostly minor) are also expected in some of the lower elevation locations down to around 2500 feet. Lighter snow will continue Saturday night that may impact some of the lower passes west of the Cascades (I-5) and also the valleys like Ashland. A warm front on Monday will push snow levels higher.
