Strong Winter Storms To Impact Region Next Week

A series of strong winter storms combined with cold air will begin to impact our region this week. Winter storm warnings and even blizzard warnings are posted for some areas of the Cascades. Except for some short breaks, snow is expected nearly all of next week as multiple storms and disturbances move through the area.

Here is what you need to know….

Klamath Falls: A warm front is expected to move through Monday raising snow levels to around 5,000 feet. They will quickly fall as colder air moves back in on Tuesday and the next strong winter storm impacts our area. Roughly 4-6 inches are expected locally Tuesday through Wednesday based on current information at time of posting. Additional snowfall is also expected the rest of the week and around a foot of snow is possible in the Monday-Saturday timeframe next week. Roadways could be slow to melt with cold air remaining in the area.

Cascades: Heavy snow and blowing snow with snow rates up to 2 inches per hour possible. Blizzard like conditions possible for Highway 140W passes and other areas in the Cascades. Blizzard warnings are now posted for Willamette Pass on Highway 58 Tuesday and Thursday where 1-4 feet of new snow and high winds are expected. Road closures are possible and chain requirements are almost certain. Travel could become impossible at times due to light powdery snow being blown around bringing visibilities to near zero in some areas. The worst days for travel are expected to be Tuesday-Wednesday in the mountains.

The Tue-Wed storm is expected to impact travel from Northern California into Washington State. Additional winter weather is expected the remainder of the week with weaker storms than the Tue-Wed system moving through.
