LAKEVIEW, Ore– The Warner Peak Fire is burning on Hart Mountain between Warner Peak and Big Flat east of Plush, Oregon, within the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge managed by the Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex. It is estimated to be 2,000 – 4,000 acres and spreading rapidly with no containment currently.
Extensive fire growth yesterday and throughout the evening was reported due to high winds and steep slopes. Fire conditions are expected to worsen today with Red Flag Warnings and very limited resources available to support the fire. As a result, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge is implementing road and campground closures. The closures are as follows:
- Blue Sky Road and all adjoining roads, including Black Canyon Road, Shirk Road, Martin Canyon Road, South Boundary Road, Barnhardi Road, and Post Meadows Road.
- Hot Springs Campground
- Post Meadows Campground
Camp Hart Mountain Campground and Frenchglen Road remain open for now. This fire will impact the Hart Mountain Unit for Antelope and Archery Deer Season seasons. Contact Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for more information- (541) 883-5732.
