Klamath County Museum’s Photo of the Week for Sept. 22, 2024, shows the results of a truck accident that occurred 25 years ago this week on Highway 97 at Spring Creek Hill about 30 miles north of Klamath Falls.
While this photo might hold limited overall historical value, it became one of the more memorable images published by the Herald and News when it appeared in the Sept. 23, 1999 edition.
Hundreds of bottles of Bud Light spilled across the highway. The incident occurred when two semi-trucks sideswiped each other, causing the beer truck to lose much of its contents.
A passenger car driven by a resident from Washington State who was following the beer truck failed to stop in time to avoid becoming involved in the accident. “I couldn’t stop, there was so much beer in the road,” he said.
No one was injured. Traffic on the busy highway was limited to a single lane for several hours while crews cleared the road.
