On December 19, 2024, the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office presented the case regarding the murder of Tim Ayers to a Grand Jury after a four-month investigation involving the Klamath County Major Crime Team. After witness and officer testimony, the grand jury indited Steven Villanpando for the crimes of Murder in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a weapon, and Theft in the First Degree. Villanpando is currently lodged at the Klamath County Jail.

The Klamath County Major Crime Team consists of detectives from the Klamath Falls Police Department, Oregon State Police, the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Klamath Community Corrections, and the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office. On August 8th, 2024, at approximately 10:03 a.m., patrol officers from the Klamath Falls Police Department responded to 3201 Quarry Street regarding a welfare check on the resident after receiving a third-party report that the resident had been shot. Officers arrived at the residence and found the resident deceased. The Klamath County Major Crime Team was activated and is currently investigating this incident.
