On July 17th, 2026, at around 1:30 pm, the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the report of a shooting near the intersection of West Schonchin Street and South Lalo Avenue in Chiloquin, Oregon. Upon arrival of deputies and Fire District 1, 23-year-old Matthew Orcutt, and 27-year-old Decole Hernandez, both from Chiloquin, Oregon, were located and transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center for gunshot wounds. An investigation into the shooting by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Oregon State Police continued into the evening when the vehicle used in the shooting was located off Park Avenue in Chiloquin. Further investigation and tips from the community ultimately led to the arrest of 22-year-old Damian Scardino of Lapine, Oregon. Damian Scardino was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Assault One. Both victims are currently listed in stable condition.
