On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 9:13 a.m., Klamath County Sheriff’s Office deputies and fire personnel were dispatched to the area of Hill Road and Crystal Springs Road following a report of an aircraft crash.

Preliminary information indicates a single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft, piloted by Gus Macy, was conducting an agricultural pesticide application flight when the aircraft appears to have struck a Basin Mediactive Radio tower.

The aircraft subsequently crashed to the ground and caught fire.

A witness who was nearby immediately responded to the crash site and was able to pull Macy away from the burning wreckage before emergency personnel arrived.

Macy sustained major injuries and was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.
