On September 11, Klamath County Fire District 1 personnel responded to assist Keno Fire with a technical rescue following a motor vehicle crash in which a vehicle traveled approximately 100 feet down a steep embankment. The incident occurred Monday in the area of the BLM boat launch on the Klamath River.
The patient was able to get out of the vehicle but was unable to safely climb back to the roadway. Due to the steep terrain, crews established a rope rescue system to safely lower rescuers and medical personnel to the patient before bringing the patient back up the embankment.
Klamath County Fire District 1 personnel worked alongside Keno Fire, Search and Rescue, and Mercy Flights to safely package, treat, and move the patient to the roadway.
Incidents like this highlight the importance of strong mutual-aid partnerships and maintaining trained technical rescue personnel throughout our region. No single agency can prepare for every situation alone, and cooperation between neighboring agencies allows specialized personnel, equipment, and resources to be brought together when they are needed most.
