Klamath County Fire District 1 responded to a small fire at Klamath Union High School on the afternoon of October 22, 2026.

School staff acted quickly, using a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire and contain it to the piece of equipment involved before fire personnel arrived. Their prompt actions helped prevent the fire from spreading.

This incident highlights the value of accessible fire extinguishers and staff training. Only attempt to extinguish a small, contained fire if you can do so safely and have a clear escape route. Alert others, call 911, and evacuate if there is any doubt about your safety. Remember PASS: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep side to side.

School safety depends on preparation. Keep exits and hallways clear, practice evacuation procedures, and report smoke, unusual odors, or equipment concerns immediately. When an alarm sounds, follow staff directions and leave promptly. Remain outside until authorized to return.

Klamath County Fire District 1 thanks school staff for their quick response and commitment to safety.
