PLEASE STOP USING CHAINSAWS DURING THESE EXTREME FIRE CONDITIONS.
This morning, while firefighters and crews were actively working the Wrights Spring Fire, a resident near Bly Mountain Cutoff Road and Highway 140 East was using a chainsaw while doing fire-prevention work around their property.
The chainsaw started a new fire that burned approximately ¼ acre.
Thankfully, crews were able to respond and contain the fire. However, this incident is a serious reminder of just how quickly a simple spark can become a wildfire, especially while firefighters are already stretched thin responding to an active incident.
We understand that property owners want to protect their homes and prepare their properties for wildfire. But during current conditions, using chainsaws, equipment, or other tools that can generate sparks can create an extremely dangerous situation.
Please do not use chainsaws during these hazardous fire conditions.
Do not create unnecessary sparks.
Do not risk starting another wildfire.
Do not put additional lives and resources at risk.
Fire season is here. Conditions are extremely dry, and one spark is all it takes.
Please help us protect our communities and our firefighters. Wait until conditions are safer before using equipment that can start a fire.
