Man spends heat of the day on roof in Merrill as Police try to talk him down

Incident Date: July 31st, 2019 – Merrill, Oregon

Police Officers, Sheriff Deputies, And at least one Oregon State Police trooper spent the better part of today in Merrill at a residence near Front & Clay Streets.


A male person went on his roof to evade police late this morning. He was up there for hours as law enforcement tried to negotiate and talk him into coming down from the roof. During the standoff the person tried to harm himself.

Fire and ambulance crews were also sent to the scene to stand by during the event. The person is now down from the roof after fire fighters extended a ladder. The person involved is now in police custody.

Main Street (Highway 39) in Merrill was closed for hours during the incident.

Additional details will be added later if they become available. It is currently unknown why law enforcement contacted the person this morning as the event unfolded. This event and several others today were covered live in our breaking news app.
