Operational Update: Yesterday and last night the fire was very active, moving to the east and southeast, crossing Bliss Road in the vicinity of Round Mountain.
The plan for today is to create an anchor point along Bliss Road and work north with dozers to Skeen Ranch Road to stop the fires eastward movement. To the north, road prep will continue in anticipation of planned strategic burning to secure control lines in the vicinity of Flat Lake. Scouting will occur between Saddle Mountain and Skeen Ranch Road to determine where the fire crossed Sprague River and Sprague River Road that had been identified as control line, and crews will work to secure and re-establish these as control lines
Crews are preparing for another significant day on the Wrights Spring Fire as near-critical fire weather is expected. Ten structural task forces will be working across the fire today. Structure operations remain divided into two primary areas. The West Group will focus on the Elde area, Saddle Mountain and west of Watchdog Butte, conducting structure preparation and assessments. The East Group will focus on Skeen Ranch Road and Bliss Road, working in areas where fire has impacted properties near and around structures. Crews will also continue along Sprague River Road toward Highway 140, conducting structure assessments and preparing for the potential of fire movement farther east.
Additional resources will be positioned in the Skeen Ranch Road and Bliss Road areas to provide structure point protection as needed, particularly during the mid- to late-afternoon hours when the fire is expected to have increased fire behavior, similar to conditions observed yesterday. Structure assessments will continue along Sprague River Road, while crews also scout toward the Bly Mountain area. Residents and the public should expect to see fire activity visible from Peter Steiner Road north toward the Round Mountain area.
